2 x George V Silver Toast Racks Hukin & Heath 1912
This is a charming pair of small George V Sterling Silver Four Slice Toast Racks. The toast racks have oblong bases with rounded corners, which stand on four ball feet. The dividers are arched with a finger ring handle on the central divider. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
These small toast racks are perfect for a breakfast tray or as personal toast racks on a dining table or breakfast bar.
The pair of toast racks are made in Birmingham by renowned silversmiths Hukin & Heath and date to 1912. Founded by Jonathan Hukin & John Heath as electroplaters in 1855, Hukin & Heath moved into Sterling Silver in the mid-1870s. They are best known for their association with the groundbreaking designs of Dr Christopher Dresser in the late 1870s and early 1880s when displays of his work in their London showroom generated huge attention. They ceased trading in the early 1950s.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents, no damage to the dividers and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 110 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each toast rack is 7.2cm / 2.8ins long, 4.1cm / 1.6ins wide and stands 7.2cm / 2.8ins high. The pair together weighs in at 66.5g / 2.3oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the base are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter n for 1912 and the distinctive H & H in an oval makers' mark for Hukin & Heath Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the toast racks.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
