Antique Lantern Clocks
The lantern clock was probably the most common type of domestic 17th century clock to be found. It was a weight driven wall clock. Typical construction took a lantern shape made of brass with a bell on top surrounded by fretwork. Over time these antique lantern clocks were adapted with a conversion from verge to anchor escparpment by means of a long pendulum. In the 1800s they were also converted into spring driven mantel clocks.
