Victorian Silver Salt Spoon, TH Stone, Exeter 1864

This is a good quality Victorian Sterling Silver Salt Spoon in the classic Fiddle pattern. The spoon has a gilded bowl and the initials W E V are elegantly engraved at the top of the stem.
The salt spoon was made in Exeter by silversmith Thomas Hart Stone and dates to 1864. John Stone was one of Exeter's foremost silversmiths. He was a specialist spoon maker working from premises initially in New Bridge Street and later the High Street between the early 1820s and his death in 1868. He was succeeded in the business by his son Thomas Hart Stone who registered his own mark in 1863 and after his death in 1873 was in turn followed by his widow Frances Stone.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents, no significant loss to the gilding and just the superficial wear that has to be expected after 160 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The salt spoon is 8cm / 3.1ins long and weighs in at 5.9g / 0.21oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the three towered wall assay mark for Exeter, the date letter H for 1864, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the T S makers' mark for Thomas Hart Stone.
Shipping in the UK is £4.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
