Georgian Scottish Silver Table Spoon, Aberdeen

Here we have a fine quality Georgian Scottish Provincial Sterling Silver Table Spoon in the classic Old English pattern. There is a very worn set of initials at the top of the stem which may read J B but it is hard to be sure.
The spoon was made in Aberdeen by silversmith John Ewan and dates to between the 1770s and around 1820, during the reign of George III. John Ewan was a specialist spoon and flatware maker who was active in the city of Aberdeen between 1774 and 1821. Like many Scottish silversmiths of the period he never registered a mark at the Edinburgh assay office but stamped his own pieces.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents, no significant wear to the tip and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 200 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The table spoon is 22.5cm / 8.8ins long and 4.4cm / 1.7ins wide across the bowl. It weighs in at a very respectable 51.9g / 1.83oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the thistle mark, struck twice, to show that it is Scottish Sterling Silver and the distinctive Jo E makers' mark for John Ewan of Aberdeen.
Shipping in the UK is £13.00 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the spoon.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
