Sterling Silver Caddy Spoon, Gorham, 1919 Gorham Caddy Spoon %%alt5%%
A very good quality George V Sterling Silver Caddy Spoon in the "Norfolk" pattern. This Caddy Spoon is made by Gorham Manufacturing Company in Birmingham and dates to 1919. Gorham are one of the greatest names in American silver and are particularly well known for their cutlery and flatware, having supplied silver services to several US Presidents. In the early 1900s they supplemented their original factory in Providence, Rhode Island with an English factory called the Sterling Works in Barr Street, Birmingham, which they maintained into the 1930s.

As you would expect from Gorham, this is a well made spoon in a good gauge of silver. It is double struck in the elegant Art Nouveau "Norfolk" pattern.

Condition is very good with just the superficial wear you would expect from 100 years of use. You could use this for spooning tea today, to add to a "Norfolk" pattern service or as a great item for any collector of caddy spoons. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The caddy spoon is 11.6cm / 4.5" long and weighs a substantial 20.9g of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are well struck and clear to read. They are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "u" for 1919 and the G.M.Co makers' mark for Gorham Manufacturing Company.
