Pair Art Deco Silver Candlesticks, B'ham, 1939/40

This is a stylish Pair of Art Deco Sterling Silver Candlesticks. The sticks have circular bases, weighted for stability, which taper smoothly upwards to urn shaped sconces with wide top rims.
The candlesticks were made in Birmingham by S. Blanckensee & Son with one dating to 1939 and the other to 1940. The firm was originally founded in Bristol by Abraham Solomon Blanckensee in 1826 but very quickly moved to premises in Birmingham and also had a mark registered in Chester. Saul Samuel was briefly a partner but left in 1858 and from the 1880s they were known as S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd until they ceased trading at the start of the Second World War. They made a wide range of silverware of consistently high quality.
Overall condition is good but there is some marking around the sconces were a previous owner has been a little too vigorous removing the candle stubs and there is a flat spot on the bottom rim of one stick plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect with use and the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each candlestick is 10.5cm / 4.1ins high and 8.8cm / 3.5ins in diameter across the base. The pair together weigh in at 358g / 12.6oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the bases.
The hallmarks, on the upper sides of the bases, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter P for 1939 on one and Q for 1940 on the other and the S.B & S.Ld makers' mark for S. Blanckensee & Son Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £12.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the candlesticks.
