George VI Silver Mustard Spoon, A.J. Bailey, 1937
This is a nice quality George VI Sterling Silver Mustard Spoon in the classic Old English pattern. The spoon is made in Birmingham by A.J. Bailey and dates to 1937. A.J. Bailey started his business in the late 1890s, specialising in silver flatware and tableware. He was succeeded by his son and the firm continued trading into the mid-1970s.
The spoon is in the Old English pattern, one of the most successful designs in flatware history, first introduced in the 1760s and still being produced today. The mustard spoon has no initials or personalisation and is entirely suitable for use with any condiments on a modern dining table.
Condition is good, with no dings or dents and just the surface wear you would expect after over 80 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is a good size for use with most 20th century mustard pots. It is 8.1cm / 3.2" long and weighs 4.5g / 0.16oz.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the bowl, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "N" for 1937 and the A.J.B makers' mark for A.J. Bailey.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
