George III Silver Stand with Victorian Fittings
A marriage, but a beautiful one - and in excellent condition.
A fine, early George III, silver, galleried and pierced centrepiece-stand on ball and claw feet, with crest cartouche. Together with early Victorian (1849) silver fittings and matching cut-glass bottles also with early Victorian silver mounts (1849-53) in the Georgian style.
The stand is by Thomas Heming, London -1767. The handle with five-bottle fitment, the two casters and two of the bottles are by John Wilmin Figg - 1849/50. The other bottle is 1853, by Walter Morisse. With the exception of the Figg maker's mark on one bottle, all the hallmarks are clearly legible.
The bottles are all conformantly cut with a diamond pattern. This and the silver mounts are in Georgian style to fit with the stand.
Overall height 24cm, diameter 14cm. Casters - 16 x 4cm. Two bottles - 13.5 x 4, the other bottle 12.5x4.
I try to be exhaustive in my descriptions of condition, as I know how important it is when buying online. In my opinion, none of the issues mentioned below are material to the look and function of the piece, which I consider to be in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. There is minor nibbling to the base of some of the bottles and to the necks of the casters under the silver mounts, but no cracks, chips or breaks to the glassware. Two of the silver mounts have visible old repairs or marks from original joining to the collars beneath the handle. The shorter bottle has a distortion to the lip and the handle has a slight kink above the band. I have included photographs of these wherever possible.
I trade in small silver, jewellery and objets d'art. I sell primarily at antiques fairs and in cabinets in Christique Antique Centre in Dorking. I try to find unusual and interesting stock and like to keep turning it over, so I can buy more. Postage and packing are free within the UK - unless explicitly stated otherwise. All fine jewellery will be supplied with a box. If the box/case is described in the text, it will be the one photographed, but may not be if it is not mentioned explicitly. I keep hardly any stock at home, if you want to buy something and need it urgently, I will usually do it the next day, but it may take me some time to respond if you need extra photographs and/or details about the piece that I do not have to hand, as I typically visit the antiques centre just once a week. If you don't see what you're looking for - feel free to send an enquiry via the site. I have only been able to list a portion of my stock.
I will always mention anything that materially affects the aesthetic or function of a piece, but will not attempt to describe what I consider to be normal for age and use. Please use the photographs as well as you can and I’m always happy to answer specific questions.
