George II Silver Mote Spoon Georgian silver mote spoon
An early Georgian silver mote spoon circa 1750, featuring a cross and scroll pattern hand pierced bowl with finial tip.

Mote spoons were used to remove fragments of tea or ‘mote’ from teacups before drinking. The sharp pointed end of the spoon would have been used to dislodge blockages from the inside of the spout of the teapot. Mote spoons were made from the late 17th century to about 1770 when they were superseded by the tea caddy spoon.

This mote spoon is good conditon and as usual with very old mote spoons the hallmarks are difficult to read.

Dimensions: 13cm x 2.5cm
