Edwardian Silver Sugar Tongs, G\'smiths & S\'smiths
Here we have a fine quality pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Sugar Tongs in the threaded King\'s Shape pattern. King\'s Shape is the scalloped shape but without the decoration that you get in King\'s Pattern. These tongs have a simple thread outlining the King\'s Shape on each arm. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The sugar tongs are made by the famous Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company Ltd in London and date to the middle of the Edwardian era in 1905. Founded in 1880 by William Gibson and John Langman, the company was both a manufacturer and retailer servicing wealthy customers from their Regent Street store. The firm was very successful and finally merged with Garrard & Co in 1952.
Condition of the tongs is good with no dings or dents and just the surface wear that you would expect after over 115 years of use. Please make sure that you view all the photographs.
The sugar tongs are 9.7cm / 3.8ins long and weigh in at 18g / 0.63oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks are on the inside of the arms. One set is a little rubbed but still clear to read. It shows the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard\'s head assay mark for London and the date letter k for 1905. On the other arm is the distinctive G & S Co Ltd trefoil makers\' mark for Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
