This is an elegant Edwardian Sterling Silver Sifter Spoon in the ever popular King's Pattern. The sifter spoon was made in 1908 in Birmingham for H.J. Cooper & Co. Henry James Cooper was principally a jeweller, operating from premises in London's Holborn district between around 1890 and the late 1930s. He ordered in silver made in Birmingham which he sold in his store and stamped with his sponsor's mark.
The King's Pattern was first introduced into Britain in the early 19th century and was based on 18th century French designs. It became popular very quickly and has remained in production with a number of variants up until the present day.
This sifter spoon is in good condition with no dings or dents and only superficial surface wear. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 9cm / 3.5" long and weighs 8.5g / 0.3oz.
The hallmarks are on the underside of the stem and are very clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "i" for 1908 and the H.J.C & Co Ld sponsor's mark for H.J. Cooper & Co Ltd.
