Edwardian Silver Caddy Spoon, London Import, 1904

This is an ornate Edwardian period Sterling Silver Caddy Spoon of continental origin. The bowl of the spoon has a crimped and beaded rim and an embossed design of a man and a donkey. The stem is formed of two entwined fish and the finial is a windmill set amongst trees.
The spoon was made in Hanau in Germany, imported into England by Faudel Phillips & Sons and assayed in London in 1904. The firm registered their mark at Goldsmith’s Hall in London in 1903. They were importers and wholesalers of silverware from continental Europe, usually in very different designs to these being produced in Britain. They remained in business until WW1 made importing impossible.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 120 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The caddy spoon is 10.5cm / 4.1ins long and 3.3cm / 1.3ins across the bowl. It weighs in at 22.9g / 0.8oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The spoon has an assortment of Hanau marks on the back of the bowl and on the inside of the bowl are the English hallmarks, which are well struck and clear to read. They show the .925 stamp for Sterling Silver, the sun assay mark for London imports, the date letter II for 1904 and the F.P. & S importers mark for Faudel Phillips & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
