Brüder Frank - Austrian Silver Enamel Card Case
I don't think you'll see a better card-case!
Brüder Frank - An antique Austrian silver and enamel card case. Polychrome hand-painted cover beneath a glazed panel depicting a pastoral scene within a cast silver scroll border. The interior with further fine and detailed inked etching. The base with fine engine-turning and cream enamel to all sides – marks for Brüder Frank, Vienna 935 silver. Ca 1900. I will hope my photos allow the beautifully decorated case to speak for itself, together with the fine silverwork, both top and bottom. Fits today's standard business cards.
Overall, 95x70x12mm, and an amazing 195g. There is a small split to the interior panel about 1cm long, but the case is otherwise in amazing condition for its age.
The Frank Brothers Gold and Silver Factory (Die Gold und Silberwarenfabrik Brüder Frank) was founded in 1887 in Vienna, during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Brüder Frank was very well-known in Austria, but also exported to Germany, Holland, Switzerland, and Russia. In 1889 Frank Brothers were represented with several exotic silver pieces in the Special Exhibition of Austrian Art at the Austrian Museum of Art and Industry, as well as at the exhibition of the Austrian Art Industry 1850-1914.
I trade in small silver, jewellery and objets d'art. I sell primarily at antiques fairs and in cabinets in Christique Antique Centre in Dorking. I try to find unusual and interesting stock and like to keep turning it over, so I can buy more. Postage and packing are free within the UK - unless explicitly stated otherwise. All fine jewellery will be supplied with a box. If the box/case is described in the text, it will be the one photographed, but may not be if it is not mentioned explicitly. I keep hardly any stock at home, if you want to buy something and need it urgently, I will usually do it the next day, but it may take me some time to respond if you need extra photographs and/or details about the piece that I do not have to hand, as I typically visit the antiques centre just once a week. If you don't see what you're looking for - feel free to send an enquiry via the site. I have only been able to list a portion of my stock.
I will always mention anything that materially affects the aesthetic or function of a piece, but will not attempt to describe what I consider to be normal for age and use. Please use the photographs as well as you can and I’m always happy to answer specific questions.
