Art Deco Silver Bowl, Crisford & Norris, 1928
Here we have a fine quality and very stylish Art Deco Sterling Silver Two Handled Bowl. The circular bowl has a stepped foot, a band of engine turned decoration around the middle and two flat topped handles. It has the appearance of a quaich or porringer but is much larger than these would normally be.
The bowl was made in Birmingham by noted silversmiths Crisford & Norris and dates to 1928. Harold Crisford & William Norris established their business in 1896 at premises in Vyse Street in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. They are best known for their good quality and well designed small items for personal use, novelty baby rattles, pin cushions and stylish powder compacts but also made some larger items of tableware. They remained in business up until around 1970.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 95 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bowl is of a good size, measuring 18cm / 7.1ins from handle to handle, 12cm / 4.7ins across the bowl and standing 7.2cm / 2.8ins high. It weighs in at a substantial 175.0g / 6.17oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, high up on the body, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver. the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter D for 1928 and the C & N makers' mark for Crisford & Norris.
Shipping in the UK is £11.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the bowl.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
