This is a heavyweight Set of Six Victorian Sterling Silver Teaspoons in the traditional Fiddle pattern. The spoons have the initial V elegantly engraved at the tops of the stems.
The teaspoons were made by silversmith William Pope and assayed in Exeter in 1854. William Pope was a specialist spoon and flatware maker active in Plymouth between around 1830 and the 1860s who had his work assayed in Exeter.
Condition is good, with just a small very shallow flat spot on the bowl of one spoon plus the overall superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 170 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each teaspoon is 14.1cm / 5.5ins long and the set of six together weighs in at a substantial 127.4g / 4.49oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the three towered wall assay mark for Exeter, the Gothic date letter S for 1854, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the W.P makers' mark for William Pope.
