6 x Art Deco Silver Cake Forks, Cooper Bros, 1938
This is a stylish cased set of six Art Deco Sterling Silver Cake Forks from the 1930s. The forks are in the classic design with one broadened prong for cutting a cake a pastry. The top of the stems have a distinctively Deco line and wave design. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The cake forks are made in Sheffield by well known silversmiths Cooper Brothers & Sons and date to 1938, just before the Second World War. Originally founded in 1866 as Cooper Brothers, the firm established a reputation as one of the best makers of cutlery and flatware in Sheffield and produced many different designs over their long history. They were finally taken over in the early 1980s.
Condition is very good with no dings, dents or damage and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after nearly 85 years of use. The box is a little scuffed but really not bad at all with the hinges and clasp in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each fork is 12.9cm / 5.1ins long and the set of six together, unboxed, weighs in at a substantial 113.8g / 4oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the stems, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter v for 1938 and the C.B & S makers' mark for Cooper Brothers & Sons Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the forks.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
