Antler handled steel carving set. Sheffield 1886.
A lovely pair of Victorian carving knife and fork with silver collars and steel blade and fork.
The collars are hallmarked at the Sheffield Assay Office in the year 1886 and with the makers stamp of Henry Wilkinson, one of the best silversmiths at the time. The steel blade of the knife has the makers stamp for Lee & Wigfall of Sheffield. Although the fork does not have any stamp, I can safely assume it was also made by them as well.
The antler handles are a fantastic deep brown, with the patination of years of use.
The fork has the protecting bar to prevent the chef being cut when the knife slips from the meat.
Judging by the quality they were used at the table and not in the kitchen.
Both the blade and the fork have been used and being steel have the marks (pitting) where they have not been looked after and oiled when not in use.
They are not boxed but are both in good condition for their age and use.
The knife is 16 inches long and the fork is 12.5 inches long.
I also have for sale a set of fish servers by the same makers and in the same year.
UK post is included in the price. For international shipping, please contact us for a price.
We want our customers to be satisfied with their purchases, so we offer a money back guarantee. Items must be returned within 14 days and in the same condition as sent. Please note that postage and shipping costs are non-refundable.
