2 x Silver Pillar Candlesticks William Hutton 1912
Here we have a handsome, fine quality pair of George V Sterling Silver Candlesticks. The candlesticks are pillar shaped on square bases and have removable sconces. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind. The bases are weighted for stability.
The candlesticks are made in Sheffield by renowned silversmiths William Hutton & Sons Ltd and date to 1912. Originally founded by William Hutton in Birmingham around 1800, the firm transferred to Sheffield in 1832 and opened a prestigious London showroom in 1863. The firm remained in the control of the Hutton family until the 1930s when they were bought by James Dixon & Sons.
Condition is generally good but there are some dents in the square pillar bases on both candlesticks. They do still however looking very stylish when in use and will add a touch of elegance to any dinner table. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each candlestick is 13cm / 5.1ins high and 8.2cm / 3.2ins square at the base. The pair together weigh in at 897.2g / 31.6oz but this obviously includes the filler material in the bases.
There is a full set of hallmarks on each base which are well struck and clear to read. They show he lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter u for 1912 and the distinctive W H & Ss Ld makers' mark for William Hutton & Sons Ltd.
