2 x Edwardian Silver Quaich Salts, London, 1902

Here we have a striking Pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Open Salts in the shape of quaiches. The salts are circular with round rim feet, line decorated top rims and pierced flat handles to create the classic quaich shape. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The salts were made in London by noted silversmiths Fenton, Russell & Co and date to 1902. This Scottish firm of silversmiths and electroplaters was founded in Edinburgh in 1822 by Bailie Thomas Russell. James Fenton became a partner in the company in 1853 and by 1876 was the sole proprietor, although the firm continued to trade as Thomas Russell & Co. A London showroom was opened and in 1900 the business was renamed Fenton, Russell & Co Ltd and continued trading into the 1930s.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents, no salt corrosion and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 120 years of good service on the dinner table. These have clearly been well looked after. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each salt is 7.9cm / 3.1ins from handle to handle, 4.8cm / 1.9ins in diameter across the top rim and stands 2.5cm / 0.98ins high. The pair together weigh in at a very respectable 75.3g / 2.65oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the upper parts of the bodies, are clear and easy to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter g for 1902 and the distinctive F.R & Co Ld makers' mark for Fenton, Russell & Co Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the salts.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
