Art Deco Silver Egg Cup & Spoon Set, 1927

1 of 6
Here we have a very stylish Cased Art Deco Sterling Silver Egg Cup and Spoon Set. The egg cup has a stepped circular base with the cup supported above this on three bracket legs. The spoon has an engine turned stem. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind, making this ideal as a gift.
The set was retailed by Charles Packer & Co of Regent Street in London, with the egg cup being made by Lee & Wigfull in Sheffield in 1927 and the spoon by William Base & Sons in Birmingham in 1926. The spoon may be a replacement for a lost original or the set might have been put together by the retailer. Regardless, they complement each other very well.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would anticipate with use and the passage of time. The box has a couple of tiny scuffs but is in overall very good condition with the hingres and clasp in full working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The egg cup is 5.9cm / 2.3ins high and 4.7cm / 1.8ins in diameter, whilst the spoon is 11.2cm / 4.4ins long. Together they weigh in at a very respectable 49.7g / 1.75oz of solid Sterling Silver. Boxed up, the set weighs 234g / 8.25oz.
The hallmarks on both pieces are nice and clear to read. On the egg cup they show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter k for 1927 and the H.W makers' mark for Henry Wigfull of Lee & Wigfull. On the spoon they show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter B for 1926 and the W B & S makers' mark for William Base & Sons.
