2 x Edwardian Silver Candlesticks, Ellis & Co 1907

Here we have a handsome Pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Candlesticks. The candlesticks have square bases, weighted for stability, with rounded corners and gadrooned top rims. The pillar style stems have wavy line decoration down their length and are topped by urn shapped sconces with line decorated rims.
The candlesticks were made in Birmingham by silversmiths Ellis & Co and date to 1907. The firm was founded by Ellis Jacob Greenberg in 1906. He was the son of highly regarded silversmith Israel Sigmund Greenberg. The company were both electroplaters and silversmiths and produced a broad range of good quality silverware. In the 1960s they merged with Barker Brothers to become the Barker Ellis Silver Company.
Overall condition is fair, with a few knocks to the bases and signs of an old repair below one sconce but they still look very elegant when in use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each candlestick is 15cm / 5.9ins high with an 8cm / 3.1ins square base. The pair together weigh in at 599.3g / 21.1oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the bases.
The hallmarks, on the sides of the bases, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter h for 1907 and the E.J.G makers' mark for Ellis Jacob Greenberg of Ellis & Co.
Shipping in the UK is £13.00 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, whioch includes cover for the value of the candlesticks.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
