S. Blanckensee & Son, Birmingham Silver maker
Founded in Bristol in 1826 by Solomon Blanckensee a dealer in jewellery. After moving to Birmingham his firm grew rapidly in size and with the variety of its products. They had few rivals in the jewellery industry.
Solomon died in 1863 and was succeeded by his two sons. Blanckensee & Sons.In 1912 the firm acquired the well-known silversmiths' business of Nathan & Hayes and moved to Great Hampton Street, where a successful manufacturing silver section was established. The firm also acquired the Albion Chain Co in 1916 along with the old manufacturing business of Stokes & Ireland and, in 1929, the business of A & J Zimmerman.
After the second world war the firm acquired the firm of of J W Tiptaft Ltd.
