William Comyns Silver Coffee Can & Saucer 1901
We have the real pleasure of being able to offer this lovely coffee can and saucer in which the coffee can is presented in a stunning William Comyns silver holder.
The silver William Comyns coffee can holder has a typically exquisite pierced design depicting cherubs within a foliate design which extends to an ornate dragon handle. The holder carries full English silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1901, along with the makers marks for William Comyns. The holder is complemented by the coffee can can and saucer, both of which are decorated in a deep cobalt blue ground with a very attractive overlaid scrolling pattern in gilt. The coffee can and saucer carry the Crown Staffordshire eggshell porcelain marks for 1889 - 1912.
The Silver holder along with the coffee can and saucer are all in excellent condition. The hallmarks are clean and crisp and the coffee can and saucer are both free of chips, cracks or repairs. However, there is a little bit of wear to the gilding of the coffee can at the point of contact between the silver holder and the coffee can. The coffee can in its silver holder is just over 2 & 1/2 inches (6.5 cm) high and the saucer is 4 & 1/3 inches (11cm) wide.
