Vintage Silver Toothpick, William Manton, 1994
This is a stylish and useful Vintage Sterling Silver Retractable Toothpick. The toothpick is operated with a twist action and the cylindrical body has engine turned decoration along its length. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The toothpick was made in Birmingham by William Manton and dates to 1994. The Manton family of silversmiths had a long history in and around Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter. Started by Henry Manton (later Sir Henry) in around 1830, the firm passed through several members of the Manton family with some descendants setting up their own separate businesses. William Manton and W.H. Manton were both still operating well into the 1990s.
Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and appears to have seen very little use. The rotating retractable mechanism is in full working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The toothpick is 8.1cm / 3.2ins long when opened and 5.5cm / 2.1ins when closed. It weighs in at 6.3g / 0.22oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter U for 1994 and the W M makers' mark for William Manton.
Shipping in the UK is £4.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
