Victorian Silver Mustard Spoon, Exeter, 1846

This is a good quality early Victorian Sterling Silver Mustard Spoon in the classic Fiddle pattern. The spoon has the initials E L elegantly engraved at the top of the stem.
The sppon was made by Robert Williams & Sons of Bristol and assayed in Exeter in 1846. Robert Williams took over the Bristol business of silversmith William Woodman around 1832 with his sons James and Josiah joining him around 1845 to form Robert Williams & Sons. They would go on to become Josiah Williams & Co, the most successful manufacturing silversmith outside of London, Sheffield and Birmingham before finally closing around 1940.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just a tiny amount of spotting to the silver caused by salt in the mustard plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 175 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The mustard spoon is quite a large one at 12.8cm / 5ins long and weighing in at a respectable 17.2g / 0.61oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the three towered wall assay mark for Exter, the Gothic date letter K for 1846, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the RW over JW over JW makers' mark for Robert Williams, James Williams and Josiah Williams of Robert Williams & Sons.
