Victorian Silver Belt Buckle, S.M. Levi, 1900
Here we have a very stylish late Victorian Sterling Silver two part Belt Buckle. The buckle has a matching pierced scrollwork design on each part decorated with hand engraved detail. The two parts are joined by a simple hook and loop fastening. This would add an elegant highlight to any outfit for a special occasion.
The buckle is made by silversmith Samuel M. Levi of Birmingham and dates to 1900. Levi founded his firm in the 1880s remaining in personal control until 1931 when it became S.M. Levi Ltd. They made a range of primarily personal items including buckles, compacts, cigarette cases, purses, perfume bottles and dressing table pots. The firm ceased trading around the start of the Second World War.
Condition is very good, with no damage to the pierced scrollwork and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 120 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The buckle is 8.1cm / 3.2ins wide and 6cm / 2.3ins from top to bottom. It weighs a respectable 31.9g / 1.1oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the inside of the buckle are particularly well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter a for 1900 and the S.M.L makers' mark for Samuel M. Levi.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the buckle.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
