Victorian Green Blush Glass Perfume Bottle, 1899
Here we have a beautiful late Victorian Cut Glass Perfume Bottle with a Sterling Silver collar. The bottle is made from green blush glass to give a mottled green and clear glass effect. It has been deep cut with a large oval cabochon at front and back and panels of tooth cut decoration around the sides.
The perfume bottle is made by A.W. Pennington in Birmingham and dates to 1899. Arthur Willmore Pennington founded his firm around 1890. They specialised in silver mounted items such as perfume bottles and dressing table jars, decanters and decanter labels, vases, thermometers and desk accessories. They continued in business into the mid-1920s.
The main perfume bottle is in very good condition. The neck, inside the silver collar, has a couple of chips in it and there are some nibbles to the bottom of the stopper. There are a few tiny dings in the silver collar, as is often the case. Overall it has survived its 123 years of use very well. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The perfume bottle is 10.2cm / 4ins high, 5.2cm / 2ins across and 3.5cm / 1.4ins deep. It weighs 160.2g / 5.6oz.
The hallmarks on the silver collar are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter z for 1899 and the A.W.P makers' mark for Arthur Willmore Pennington.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
