Unusual Silver Sovereign and Half Sovereign Case

1 of 5
Unusual Sovereign and Half Sovereign Case
Birmingham 1900
Maker's mark for W. H. Tandy & Sons, Vyse Street, Birmingham.
At first glance it looks kike a sovereign case but it is bigger than usual.
This is because the soveign holder is on a hinge inside and opens up to reveal a half sovereign holder underneath, a secret compartment.Stamped PAT 5352.
The springs under the coin platform are working holding the coins secure.
The case hinges are in very good condition.
The lid spring has lost its strength so the lid needs to be opened anually.
There are no personal inscriptions.
There are surface marks associated with normal use and age along with a couple of tiny dings.
Approximate dimensions: diameter 33mm, thickness 20.7mm, weight 27g.
Please excuse the shadows on the photos. The case is much rounder than usual ones making pick up more reflections.
An unusual item.
