A hand engraved solid silver compact mirror decorated with a typical Arabian scene. The compact would make an ideal 25th / silver wedding anniversary gift for her. In the foreground we see engraved palm trees. In the background a dhow in full sail and on the right hand side traditional buildings. These accessories were made in the 1940s to appeal to Allied servicemen on duty in the Middle East. Local artisans hoped that they would purchase them to take home as love tokens / souvenirs. The interior contains an excellent framed mirror which gives a good clear and accurate reflection. The base is also decorated with a hand engraved scene. This powder compact is suitable for all types of loose face powder as the original sifter (gauze) is in place. There aren't any traces of powder in the compact or on the sifter. Measures 3" and weighs 103.8 grams.
