Pierced Silver Photo Frame by Broadway & Co 1906

A very lovely sterling silver mounted photograph frame by Broadway & Co, Birmingham 1906. Embossed scrollwork with mask and pierced latticework design mounted on a shaped easel-type frame. Vacant cartouche to top. Original frame has been recovered using quality dark navy-blue cotton velvet and moiré fabrics. Hallmarked for the Birmingham assay office 1906 and silversmiths Broadway & Co. Maximum external dimensions are 22 cm in height and 18 cm in width. The frame houses a 15.25 cm by 10.5 cm picture – the aperture being reduced by the design of the frame to a maximum of approximately 12.5 cm by 9 cm.
This photograph frame is in excellent overall condition commensurate with age. Minor dints to the silver – not detracting at all from the frames appeal. The original frame has been professionally recovered. Please see images as these form an important part of the description.
Broadway & Company silversmiths was founded in Birmingham in 1901 by William Benjamin Broadway, a skilled die sinker - making and engraving the intricate designs used to create embossed silverware. The company registered their first hallmark at the Birmingham assay office with earliest hallmarks seen c1906. Silverware items produced included embossed dressing table sets, jewellery boxes, decanter labels, napkin rings, etc. Today the company remains in family ownership, designing in-house their extended range of silverware which continues to be handmade using traditional skills at their Birmingham factory.
