Pair of Edwardian Silver Pillar Candlesticks, 1902

Here we have a handsome Pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Pillar Candlesticks. The candlesticks have square bases, weighted for stability, which have beaded rims beneath a band of acanthus leaf decoration. The circular pillar stems have a beaded rim around the bottom and a band of acanthus leaf decoration above that interspersed with stems of lily of the valley. There is a band of rosettes at the tops of the stems and the sconces have beaded rims.
The candlesticks were made in Sheffield by Thomas A Scott and date to 1902. Thomas A Scott registered his mark at the Sheffield assay office in 1900. He appears to have specialised in candlesticks, which he made extremely well. He had a short career and went out of business somewhere around 1910.
Condition is very good, with just a few truly tiny dings in the bases and the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 120 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each candlestick is 12.8cm / 5ins high and the bases are 8cm / 3.1ins square. The pair together weigh in at 594g / 20.9oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the bases.
The hallmarks, on the sides of the bases, are somewhat rubbed from many years of polishing but can still be read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter k for 1902 and the T.A.S makers' mark for Thomas A Scott.
Shipping in the UK is £13 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the candlesticks.
