Pair of Edwardian Silver Candlesticks, B'ham, 1910
This is an elegant Pair of Edwardian Sterling Silver Candlesticks. The stems are of knopped tapering form and stand on circular bases which are weighted for stability. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The candlesticks were made in Birmingham by silversmiths William Neale & Son and date to 1910. The firm was founded by William Neale in Birmingham in 1862, becoming William Neale & Son in 1890. They produced a very wide range of silverware from trophies to tea services and cigarette boxes to pencils and were highly successful. They remained in business into the mid 1960s.
Overall condition is fair, with some bruising to the rims of the bases and a few minor dings but they are stable, stand straight, are perfectly functional and still look very smart when in use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The candlesticks stand 15.3cm / 6ins high and are 7.9cm / 3.1ins in diameter across the bases. The pair together weigh in at 482.9g / 17oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the bases.
The hallmarks, on the upper side of the bases, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter l for 1910 and the W.N makers' mark for William Neale & Son Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the candlesticks.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
