Mid-Century Silver Butter Knife, Cooper Bros, 1955
This is a very attractive Mid-Century Sterling Silver Butter Knife from the 1950s. It is made by the well-known firm of Cooper Brothers & Son in Sheffield and dates to 1955. Cooper Brothers was founded in 1866, with the Sons joining in the 1890s and the firm continuing into the 1980s. They made many items of tableware but are best known for their good quality cutlery and flatware.
This butter knife is in an Art Nouveau / Art Deco crossover style pattern with a flower spray at the top and stepped decoration down the sides. The pattern was never given a name in the Cooper Brothers catalogue. The design has a registered number of 857638 which dates it to 1949. It is perfect for use today or would make a good addition to any collection.
Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and very little wear. Despite being 65 years old I doesn't appear to have had a great deal of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The butter knife is 12.9cm long and weighs a respectable 12.78g of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are well struck and clear to read. They are the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter "N" for 1955 and the CB&S makers' mark for Cooper Brothers & Sons. There is also the registered design number of 857638.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
Overseas customers please ask us about shipping costs before making a purchase.
