Georgian Silver Sugar Bright Cut Tongs
Arthur Vandyk Antiques are delighted to offer for sale a lovely pair late 18th Century hallmarked silver Old English pattern with beautiful hand engraved bright cut decoration and period correct monogram to the bow with the letters L over TM,
This pair is only part marked (common on 18th century tongs) but the marks are remarkably crisp as are the bowls of the tongs and the bright cut decoration which show barely any wear.
An elegant and highly usable item of George III period silver tableware ideal for use with either sugar or ice cubes.
The details are:
Silversmith: Charles Hougham
Assay office: London (Marks lack a date letter of leopard head but are otherwise crisp)
Year of manufacture: part marked but made between 1785 - 1791 (Charles Hougham died in 1793)
Length: 14 cm
Weight: 32 Grams
Condition report:
In superb condition for its age of between 230 to 235 years old with only light age related wear such as surface scratches and light age related marks.
This is a fine piece of silver that will be an asset to your silver collection, great for entertaining indoors and outdoors or would be the perfect gift for a loved one.
