George V Silver Sovereign & Half Sovereign Case

1 of 6
A lovely George V Sterling Silver Sovereign and Half Sovereign case with spring loaded coin holders. The case is made by G.F. Wall in Birmingham and dates to 1912. There is not a great deal of information about G.F. Wall. He seems to have principally made sovereign cases and was definitely active between 1909 and 1915. It's possible that he was a casualty of the First World War.
This sovereign case is a well made piece in a good gauge of silver. The outer case is plain, with no initials or personalisation of any kind. The opening mechanism is in full working order and holds the lid closed securely. Both the sovereign and half sovereign coin holders have engine turned decoration on the top and the spring mechanisms are fully operational. This would make a lovely gift or a great addition to a collection.
Condition is very good with just a couple of truly tiny dings to the upper half of the case. This is very common with sovereign holders as they were often kept in a pocket with other items. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The sovereign case is 5cm / 1.9" long and 3cm / 1.1" deep. It weighs a respectable 26.4g / 0.93oz.
The hallmarks on the inside of the lid are somewhat rubbed but can still be deciphered. They are a little clearer than they appear in the photograph. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter "n" for 1912 and the GFW makers' mark for G.F. Wall. There is also a lion passant for Sterling Silver stamped on the ring for attachment to a chain.
Shipping in the UK is £8 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the coin holder.
