George V Silver Candlestick, Boots PDC, 1913

This is a handsome George V Sterling Silver Candlestick. The stick has a square stepped base, weighted for stability, curving in as it rises to the bottom of the stem. The square stem tapers outwards and is surmounted by an urn shaped sconce. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The candlestick was made in Birmingham by the Boots Pure Drug Company and dates to 1913. Founded in Nottingham by John Boot in 1849, Boots The Chemist is now one of the UK's largest and most successful retailers. Between around 1900 and 1925, Boots produced and stocked a wide range of good quality household & personal silverware, primarily, though not exclusively, aimed at female customers. These attractive items have now become popular with collectors.
Condition is good, with just a few tiny dings and the superficial surface wear that you would anticipate after over 110 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The candlestick stands 20cm / 7.9ins high and the base is 6.9cm / 2.7ins square. It weighs in at 222.0g / 7.8oz but this does of course include the weighting material in the base.
The hallmarks, on the upper side of the base, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter o for 1913 and the B P D C in a shield makers' mark for Boots Pure Drug Co.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
