George V Silver Bowl with Glass Liner, Adie Bros 1930

This is an elegant George V Sterling Silver Bowl with a Swing Handle and Blue Glass Liner. The bowl stands on a pedestal base and has pierced floral decoration around the top of the body and across the top of the handle.
Probably originally intended as a sugar bowl, this versatile bowl is suitable for nuts or snacks, for sweets, for potpourri, for sauces on the table or simply as a decorative item in its own right.
The bowl was made in Birmingham by silversmiths Adie Brothers and dates to 1930. Although this was the height of the Art Deco era this bowl is more of a hark back to the Georgian Revival of the late 19th and early 20th century.
Condition is very good with no dings or dents in the silver and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 90 years of good service. The blue glass liner has one tiny chip in the rim but is otherwise in very good condition. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The bowl is 10.5cm / 4.1ins in diameter across the top rim and stands 13cm / 5.1ins high with the handle in the vertical position. The bowl without the liner weighs in at a substantial 100.9g / 3.5oz of solid Sterling Silver. With the glass liner included it weighs 227.3g / 8oz.
The hallmarks on the side of the bowl are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter F for 1930 and the distinctive A Bros Ltd makers' mark for Adie Brothers Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the bowl.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
