Edwardian Silver Trinket Dish, Reynolds & Westwood

This is a charming Edwardian Sterling Silver Trinket Dish. The dish is oblong with a scalloped rim. The base is embossed in the folklore style with the Green Man and two birds set amongst scrolling foliage around a blank cartouche. This would grace any dressing table or bedside cabinet.
The dish was made in Birmingham by silversmiths Reynolds & Westwood and dates to 1906. The firm was founded by John Reynolds and George Frederick Westwood in the mid 1890s and operated out of premises in Vyse Street in Birmingham’s famous Jewellery Quarter. They produced a wide range of small silver items, notably buttons, mostly for personal use and of consistently good quality. The firm ceased trading around 1914.
Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be anticipated after over 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The dish is 12cm / 4.7ins by 9cm / 3.5ins and 1.1cm / 0.43ins deep. It weighs in at a very respectable 54.4g / 1.92oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, just below the Green Man, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter g for 1906 and the R & W makers' mark for Reynolds & Westwood.
