George III Silver Salt Spoon, Thomas James, 1806

![](http://staticaz.antiquesatlas.com/images/loading_new.gif)
This is a good quality George III Sterling Silver Salt Spoon in the traditional Old English pattern. The spoon has the initials W E elegantly engraved at the top of the stem and a number 3 on the heel of the spoon, suggesting that this was originally part of a larger set of probably either 4 or 6 spoons.
The salt spoon is made in London by silversmith Thomas James and dates to 1806. Thomas James was principally a spoon maker, although a few other small items by him are known. He registered his mark in 1804 and remained active up until around 1830.
Condition is very good with just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 215 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The spoon is 9.8cm / 3.8ins long and weighs in at 7.4g / 0.26oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the London date letter L for 1806, the George III duty mark and the T.J makers' mark for Thomas James.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
