George III Newcastle Silver Serving Spoon, 1817 Georgian Silver Newcastle %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
This is a George III Newcastle Sterling Silver Serving Spoon in the traditional Fiddle pattern. The spoon has the initials GEN elegantly engraved at the top of the stem.

The serving spoon is made in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1817 by John Robertson (II) and John Walton. Robertson & Walton formed their partnership in 1811 after the retirement of Ann Robertson, John's mother and widow of silversmith John Robertson (I). Sadly the new partnership was not successful and John Robertson (II) went bankrupt in 1820, making their mark comparatively rare.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and only the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 200 years of service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The spoon is 22.1cm / 8.7ins long and weighs a substantial 68.7g / 2.42oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are somewhat rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the three towers assay mark for Newcastle, the date letter C for 1817, the George III duty mark and the IR over IW makers' mark for John Robertson (II) and John Walton.
