George III Bright Cut Silver Shell Teaspoon, 1808
Here we have a very attractive George III Sterling Silver Shell Teaspoon with Bright Cut engraving on the stem. The engraving has a harebell flower design descending from the cartouche at the top, which is blank.
The spoon is made in London in 1808 by Jeremiah Garfield, a specialist spoon maker who was active between around 1805 and 1820.
Condition is good with just a slight kink in the stem and the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 210 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The teaspoon is 12.2cm / 4.8ins long and weighs a respectable 11.8g / 0.42oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are a little rubbed but still easy to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the London date letter N for 1808, the George III duty mark and the J.G makers' mark for Jeremiah Garfield.
