Edwardian Silver Topped Dressing Table Pot, 1901

This is an elegant large Edwardian Cut Glass Dressing Table Pot with a Sterling Silver Lid. The pot is oval with a flat base and hobnail cut decoration all around the body. The lid is elaborately decorated with embossed scrolls and flowers on a textured background surrounding a blank cartouche and is gilded on the underside.
The dressing table pot was made in Birmingham by Henry Williamson Ltd and dates to 1901. Henry Williamson opened his first premises in London's Farringdon Street in 1879. The firm expanded to became Henry Williamson Ltd in 1894, opened a manufacturing premises in Spencer Street, Birmingham and also commissioned pieces from Sheffield, all to run alongside the London showroom. They specialised in small silverware items for the dining table, the dressing table or for personal use. The company finally ceased trading in the late 1920s.
Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks in the glass, no dings or dents in the silver and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 120 years of us. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The dressing table pot is 10.8cm / 4.25ins long, 7.6cm / 3ins wide and stands 5.3cm / 2ins high. The lid by itself weighs in at a respectable 42.4g / 1.5oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together the pot weighs 310.3g / 10.9oz.
The hallmarks, to one side of the cartouche, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter b for 1901 and the H W Ld makers' mark for Henry Williamson Ltd.
