Edwardian Silver Sifter Spoon, Wm. Gallimore, 1904
Here we have a very elegant Edwardian Sterling Silver Sifter Spoon. The spoon is double struck with a fern design on both sides of the stem and a floral motif on both sides of the arching finial. The pierced bowl is decorated with lines to give a scallop shell effect. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The spoon is made in Sheffield by William Gallimore & Sons and dates to 1904. William Gallimore founded the firm in the 1860s, becoming William Gallimore & Sons in 1892. Like many in Sheffield, the company specialised in cutlery and flatware and remained in business into the early 1930s. This well made sifter spoon in a good gauge of silver is typical of their high quality products.
Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and only the most minimal superficial surface wear. This has clearly been well looked after for the last 118 years! Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The sifter spoons is 11.5cm / 4.5ins long and 4cm / 1.6ins across the bowl. It weighs a very respectable 25.4g / 0.9oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the Gothic date letter m for 1904 and the W G & S makers' mark for William Gallimore & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
