Edwardian Silver Preserve Set, Norton & White 1907
Here we have a stylish and practical Edwardian Glass & Sterling Silver Preserve Set. The set has two glass bowls which sit in a silver frame which is in a figure of eight shape with a double looped handle.
This would have originally been for jam and marmalade at the breakfast table but would work equally well for any kind of sauces or dips on a modern dining table.
The set was made in Birmingham by silversmiths Norton & White and dates to 1907. Norton & White established their firm in Birmingham in the early 1880s. They primarily produced tableware, often in striking and unusual designs and always of good quality workmanship. They remained in business until at least 1910 and possibly a little later.
Condition is very good, with no chips or cracks in the glass bowls, no dings or dents in the silver and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The set is 21cm / 8.2ins wide by 11cm / 4.3ins deep and stands 18cm / 7ins high. The stand by itself weighs in at a substantial 143.5g / 5.06oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together it weighs in at 366g / 12.9oz.
The hallmarks, on one of the upper circles of the frame, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter h for 1907 and the N & W makers' mark for Norton & White.
Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the set.
Overseas customers, please ask us about shipping costs to your country before making a purchase.
