Edwardian Silver Mounted Scent Bottle, B'ham, 1904
Here we have an unusual and attractive Edwardian Cut Glass Scent Bottle with a Sterling Silver Collar. The glass body is egg shaped with ribs down the sides which have been cut to resemble a sea urchin. The silver collar is plain and the spherical stopper is faceted.
The scent bottle was made in Birmingham and dates to 1904. Unfortunately most of the makers' mark has been polished away by many years of cleaning and only the & Co part remains.
Condition is good, with just a couple of small nibbles in the neck, where the stopper has probably been inserted a little too vigorously in the past, and a few truly tiny dings in the silver collar. There is a little perfume residue at the bottom on the inside. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The perfume bottle is 8cm / 3.1ins high, 4.4cm / 1.7ins in diameter and weighs 81.3g / 2.87oz.
The hallmarks on the collar are clear to read with the exception of the makers' mark as mentioned above. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham and the date letter e for 1904.
