Edwardian Silver Cream Jug, Haseler Bros, 1905
This is a striking, heavyweight Edwardian Sterling Silver Cream Jug with a lightly gilded interior. The jug has a circular rim base, a conical body, a broad pouring lip and a sweeping handle. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The cream jug was made by Haseler Brothers and assayed in Chester in 1905. Haseler Brothers was founded by Edward John Haseler and Noble Haseler in Birmingham in 1888. They primarily produced good quality tableware although their mark is also seen on perfume bottles. They manufactured in Birmingham and had a showroom in London’s prestigious Hatton Garden district, with marks registered in Birmingham, Chester and London. After Noble Haseler died in 1919, Edward formed a new partnership with C. Bill, the company becoming known as Haseler & Bill and they continued into the late 1920s.
Condition is good, with just one shallow bruise at the bottom of the body near the handle plus the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 115 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The creamer is a well made piece in a good heavy gauge of silver. It is 9.5cm / 3.7ins from lip to handle, 6.8cm / 2.7ins across the body and stands 11cm / 4.3ins high. It weighs in at a substantial 134.6g / 4.75oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the top rim near the handle, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the sword and three wheatsheaves assay mark for Chester, the date letter E for 1905 and the E J H over N H makers' mark for Edward and Noble Haseler of Haseler Brothers.
Shipping in the UK is £11.50 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the cream jug.
