Edwardian Cut Glass & Silver Dressing Table Pot
This is an elegant Edwardian Cut Glass Dressing Table Pot with a Sterling Silver lid. The glass is deep cut around the body in a series of ovals with star cut interiors whilst the underside of the base is daisy cut. The silver lid has a domed centre surrounded by a border of scroll work and is gilded on the underside. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The silver lid is hallmarked in Birmingham for Henry Perkins & Sons and dates to 1909. Founded around 1900 in London's Tottenham Court Road, the firm described themselves as silver mounters and specialised in providing silver lids, silver bands for decorating pipes or walking sticks, silver rims for bottles and the like. They also produced a range of silver smoking accessories. The firm ceased trading in the early 1930s.
Condition is very good with no chips or cracks in the glass. The silver lid has a couple of tiny dings in the domed lid and the rim is a little pushed down just above the hallmark. The gilding is in good condition. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The dressing table pot stands 6.7cm / 2.6ins high and is 6.4cm / 2.5ins in diameter. The silver lid by itself weighs 9.8g / 0.34oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together the pot weighs 173g / 6.1oz.
The hallmarks on the side of the lid are clear to read, with just the makers' mark being a little rubbed. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter k for 1909 and the H.P & S makers' mark for Henry Perkins & Sons.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
