Chawner & Co Silver Fiddle & Thread Caddy Spoon
For sale this rare George W Adams (Chawner & Co) large, heavy gauge fiddle and thread pattern late Victorian caddy spoon. The spoon has an engraving of a coat of arms on the handle, this was one of the last spoons made by the Chawner family: the spoon was made in 1882 and the company was bought out in 1883. The business was active between 1815 -1883.
This spoon was designed and made by George W Adams, who married Mary Ann Chawner. The details are as follows:
Maker: George W Adams - Chawner & Co
Assay office: London
Date mark: 1882
Dimensions:
Weight: 33 grams
Length: 13cm
Width of bowl: 3cm
Condition report:
The usual surface scratches and light tarnish marks consistent with age and the odd deeper micro scratch on the handle and under the bowl and the tip of the handle is ever so slightly misshapen, overall it is in very good condition for its over 130 year age. There is an armorial crest on the terminal of the handle which is possibly for the McLaren or MacGregor family. Please examine the photos carefully as this forms part of the condition report.
This is a beautiful and rare Chawner spoon that will grace your silver flatware collection with grace, quality, elegance and style.
