Deco compacts Art Deco gifts for her solid silver compact mirrors English assayed silver presents
This solid silver compact is suitable for use as a handbag mirror.
A fully hallmarked sterling silver powder compact made by Crisford & Norris in 1939. The front & base have smart engine turned designs. The cartouche is inscribed with initials that at first are impossible to read as they are so stylized they look like a motif rather than letters. Only after sometime & intense study do you realize they read 'V A' in such elegant scroll it does not detract from the compact at all - the inscription form part of the piece's history. The compact mirror is in very good condition. All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The mirror gives a very good clear reflection. The mirror may have been a replacement prior to my purchase as I would have expected the mirror glass to have been 1 mm less thick. In essence this compact will make an excellent antique silver gift but it is not a collector's piece & this is reflected in the price.
This antique compact measures 2 1/4" X 2 1/4" & weighs 78.7 grams.
