4 x George VI Silver Cake Forks, Birmingham, 1937
This is a smart set of four George VI Sterling Silver Cake or Pastry Forks in the Old English Feathered pattern. The cake forks are in the classic style with one broader tine for cutting through the cake or pastry and two normal ones for picking up the cut piece. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The cake forks were made in Birmingham by Barker Brothers Silversmiths Ltd and date to 1937. Founded in 1801 by Mary Barker, the firm became Barker Brothers in 1886 when Mary's grandsons were in control. They were very successful silversmiths and electroplaters and remained in business up until 1992.
Condition is good with no dings or dents and just some light surface scratching which has to be expected after the passage of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Each fork is 13.6cm / 5.3ins long and the set of four together weighs in at a very respectable 56.8g / 2oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the undersides of the heels of the forks, are well struck and very clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter N for 1937 and the B.B.S.Ld in a shield makers' mark for Barker Brothers Silversmiths Ltd.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
